Summer is Here!

Hello everyone! It is so nice to here from all of you! I hope you are all doing great! It seems like you all are! This week was really good, we had a lot of fun adventures, not a much teaching investigators but some exciting fun stuff!

Tuesday 6/23 – We taught an investigator today named Richard, it went really good but we don’t know if he really wants to meet again that much! He is a nice guy though and he asks some really good questions! So hopefully we will get to meet him again! We also did street boarding today which was pretty hard and I met a lot of really rude people but that is okay. We got a few numbers and talked to a lot of people so that is good!

Wednesday 6/24 – We got Krispy Kreme today for the first time in a while! It was soooo goood! I was really satisfied to say the least! Court also went to the MTC today so that is crazy and awesome! She is gonna do great on her mission! Today was also a fun day because we had a crazy rainstorm! So we new the rainstorm was coming so we went out with a umbrella but got a ways out and saw the Sisters who didn’t have an umbrella, so we gave them our umbrella and ran away so they couldn’t protest, it was raining good but not crazy so we just kept going! After we tried to visit a member we started to head back and the rain let up, I said I liked the rain and didn’t want it to stop………. haha my companion said that too….. Then it hit, and it was a downpour to say the least! From the time it hit hard we were completely soaked in seconds, too soaked to take a taxi, so we walked.  It rained so much and so hard the streets flooded. I was walking through ankle deep water before I knew it! Haha it was so much fun! Crazy, but a lot of fun! We finally got back and I think I would have been less wet if I jumped into a pool! Haha it was crazy! My timbuk2 bag did great though, only a teeny bit of water sneaked in so all my stuff except my vocab flash cards in my front pocket were fine! and my wallet was a little soggy too! It was awesome though and we got back safe! We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it!

Thursday 6/25 – Today was super hot and super humid from the downpour yesterday! We just proselyted all day!

Friday 6/26 – Thursday night it rained all night so the morning on friday was amazing! It dropped in degrees a ton! I would guess 30 degrees! Haha We actually studied in blankets cause we got cold! It was so weird! but the weather that morning was just amazing! The sun shining through the clouds through our opened windows was just amazing, it was so peaceful and studies were just peaceful and amazing, a great opportunity to think about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and there greatness and feel the peace of knowing how much they love us. It was absolutely amazing because Korea has a ton of pollution so you can only see a few hundred yards but the rain cleared it out so you could see the vivid green mountains all around and it was stunning! Everything seemed so close! It was such a great morning! We also did weekly planning and after went out and proselyted until dinner. For dinner we ordered chicken and went to the huge soccer field/track and sat in the stadium and ate chicken and enjoyed the nice weather and the huge mountain beauty in the background! It was super fun! That night we visited a member and it was really great!

Saturday 6/27 – We had Englsih class and game night and both went good!

Sunday 6/28 -Church was awesome, we had Elder Edwards family in church with us because they came to pick him up! He served in Wonju about a year ago. His family was super nice! His little 12 year old sister reminded me of Abbey! She was really funny! Haha I liked her! It was fun to have them there! Church was really good, after my companion had a lot of meetings and stuff as second counselor! I was in charge of watching the kids while they met! What a blessing that was! The Branch Presidents kids are adorable and it is great Korean practice! I watched them for like 3 hours and we played all kinds of Korean games and his little girls stole my camera and took a bunch of pics! It was really funny and cute! Haha we had a great time! We ate dinner and proselyted for a little as well!

This week was just great! I had a lot of fun! I miss Ho Jaewon a lot but he is doing well, he went to a branch activity last Saturday on Jeju Island and said he had a really good time! He is just awesome!

My mission is awesome I am loving every second of it! I am so happy to be serving here! I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and redeemer, I know he lived, died and now lives again.  I know through him we all can find peace happiness and be saved! I know that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet and through him our loving Father in Heaven has reached out to us once again! I know the Book of Mormon is true and I know that this church is true! I love you all and can’t wait to talk to you next week!

Ho Jaewon

This week has been amazing! It has been busy, busy, busy and full of amazing miracles. Miracles I don’t believe I can even adequately describe in words. I am so grateful to be serving a mission and seeing the Lord’s hand sweeping through the nations preparing the way for his return! This week was so busy that I am just going to do similar to last week and just hit the highlights!

Most of the highlights will have to do with Ho Jaewon 허재원! But the first one is Courtney’s B-Day was this week and she leaves in 3 days to go on her mission! So Congrats to her! She is going to do great!

The next one is we met with Ho Jaewon every day this week! Every time we met him he was more prepared than we had thought and it was so amazing! Every time we met with him we saw some amazing miracles! We met him a lot and on Thursday we met him with the zone leaders. He had his baptismal interview and all went well he passed!

On the same day of his baptismal interview we had a zone conference to say goodbye to President Christensen! It was hard but a really good conference! The zone actually came to Wonju for the conference which was really nice as well! It was a really great day!

Then we came to Saturday! Today was a day I will remember for the rest of my life! We left early and went to the church, we turned on the font and listened to it fill up as we studied! What a great sound it was! We then set up and members started to come, Ho Jaewon then arrived with his bags because he left to go to Jeju Island his hometown for 2 months right after his baptism! We had a great baptismal service! The members gave great talks, he was so happy and did so great! He has grown so much in our time meeting with him! He is an amazing person! After the talks we got in the font and he was baptized! It was amazing! I asked him how he felt in the bathroom after I gave him a huge hug and he said, “a little strange, but really good strange!” My companion then gave him the gift of the Holy Ghost! It was such an amazing experience! After the service we had to say goodbye which was sooo hard! We both love him so much! He went to Jeju island for the summer but will go to church there!

That night after the baptism we went to a sister in our wards house, her husband passed away and she needed some heavy lifters so my companion and I were on the job! We moved some heavy furniture, 4 big cabinets 2 fridges and a freezer! Once I was walking backwards and forgot I was in Korea so I smashed my head on the door frame super hard! It hurt pretty bad but I was laughing pretty hard! The Sister Lee was so grateful and fed us some delicious meat! It was a lot of fun!

The last thing I wanted to talk about is the follow-up with Ho Jaewon. We told Ho Jaewon we would call him soon after his baptism but before we got the chance, he called us the next day, Sunday. He said he had gone to church and met with the Elder who we called in Jeju and told them to find him. He said he loved church and the branch. Neither Elder Ashby or I could believe he was the same person. He was so different, more mature, more confident, less awkward, more happy, more loving and all around just amazing! After the call we both looked at each other in shock and awe and the miracle of the gospel. We were so grateful for the change we have seen the gospel take in his life! He has grown so much more than I thought possible in these last few months! He is doing so great and is just an amazing person! What a blessing it was to see him change and become new and better through this wonderful message! I am so grateful to have seen the influence of the gospel so brilliantly displayed in someones life! I am so grateful for the atonement of Jesus Christ that reaches out to all and includes all of our feelings! I am grateful for that very atonement that truly leaves no scars! I am grateful for this gospel and the joy it brings! I love you all so much and I hope you have a great week! I am excited to talk to you next week!

Love,

Elder Houston

105 hours of Work and Blessings

Well this week was absolutely amazing! So exhausting but so amazing! It is hot here in Korea and the days get long when we are out in the heat for 15 hours! What a treat it is! We saw so many miracles this last week! This week I am not going to go over every day cause there is too much just some highlights!

We used our bikes a lot this week! We went and found less actives all over the place including our first counselor. We looked a lot but never found him, we did find a lot of his very rude friends though and they told him we had been looking for him. We prayed for him a lot and he ended up coming to church on sunday and conducting the meeting and really talking to us, and that night he saw us in his car so he pulled over and said Hi to us! It was a huge miracle and such a blessing to us!

We have an exercise park right next to our house! It is huge! Inside this giant park is a Pro basketball arena a soccer field/track another stadium for concerts and a bunch of basketball other courts all around. We went into the soccer/track field to make calls, one of us would call on the bleachers and another would talk to people on the track! It was super awesome and we met some way cool people then!

We ate a lot of ice cream this week! We had no time for meals so we would just eat at a convenient store on the way to wherever! And we ate a lot of ice cream! haha I love ice cream now! We walked to random parts out of the city some days and knocked on old farm doors! It was incredible! I really enjoyed it!

The Duck

The Duck

One day while we were knocking and apartment building we came upon a duck who had hit the window and was hurt and trapped, so we proceeded to maneuver our way around the duck open a window and then it was getting ready to fight me so I charged it and thought it would bite me or fly out the window, and luckily it decided to fly and it flew into the distance so we saved a duck! Hey that was pretty fun!

The next part I want to talk about is our investigator Ho JaeWon! We met with him a couple of times last week and it went really good! We have taught him a lot and he is doing so good! So good in fact that is going to get baptized this Saturday! We still have quite a bit to go over but we will meet with him everyday this week! They announced it church last Sunday and he gave a polite bow! I love him to death! He is such a sweetheart! We are going to meet him tonight for dinner! He is an amazing guy and I want to ask you all to please pray for him this week! I would like you to just keep him in your prayers so he can hopefully feel God’s love even more!

The last thing I want to talk about is discipleship. This month’s focus is discipleship, and it has been amazing! Figuring out how to follow Christ no matter what happens or what people say! I really have enjoyed studying about Christ and being a disciple of him. One thing I have learned is humility is huge to be a disciple. Pride is a dangerous dangerous thing. In fact it is the very root of all evil! We need Christ. We are all imperfect and cannot do it on our own! We need him and we need his blessed atonement! In order to accept the fact that we can’t do it alone we must be completely humble! I am nowhere near where I should be with humility but I am working on it! I have a strong desire to become humble because I know and testify as did Boyd K. Packer in the last conference that Jesus Christ’s atonement is perfect and complete! His atonement, “Bears no scars” We must accept his atonement! If we believe in it repent and ACCEPT his atonement is sufficient for us, “Then we, like God, will remember our sins no more.” I know that as I more fully accept Christ atonement I realize how much more I need it! I know Heavenly Father loves us and because he does he sent his only Begotten in the flesh, namely, Jesus Christ. I know he, Jesus Christ is the savior and redeemer of the world. I know he atoned for us, and I know his atonement was enough and was perfect! I know that as we fully accept Christ and his atonement that it is so perfect that it truly does, “Bear no Scars.” What a blessing it is for me to serve my savior and redeemer! I truly love him! I truly love you all! I hope you all are doing so good! I miss each one of you and i love you with all my heart! I am grateful for you influences in my life! Have a great week!

100 Hour Week Challenge!

Hey guys I am really sorry about this but this week I am not going to be able to email! At last Zone conference they extended and opportunity to us to do a 100 hour week. Elder Ashby and I decided to do it! The other Elders in our house are not. But we are doing it and it started today and will go to next sunday! We are going to be out of the house working and doing missionary work for 100 hours this week. We wake up at 5:30 and go out by 6:30AM and work, work, work, until 9:30PM and in order to get 100 hours we can’t email to long, just enough to say hi and explain! We have no time for study or for meals either! So we have to just grab food at a gas station throughout the day and continue to work! After the day of working we go to bed at 10:30PM and then wake up again at 5:30 and start over! We are super excited and a little nervous! We will be exhausted for sure but will be rewarded as well! I am so excited to even more fully Lose myself in the work! I love you all so much! I am so proud of my brother Tyson for getting baptized! The pictures were so adorable! Haha Nia is losing all here teeth and getting new ones! Holy cow! Nyah and Anniston look cute as ever! My family all looked great and Tyson looked super happy! I was so happy to get those pictures! I love you all and I hope you have a great day today and a great week! I gotta go now! It is time to WORK! Love you family talk to you next week!
