Testifying of Christ

Hello family and friends! I love you all and I am happy to hear from you! Thank you so much for the great emails! This week has been a pretty crazy week and a pretty fun week, I am excited to tell you about it, but it was very busy so I will just get started!

For the first part of my week it consisted of packing and meeting people and saying bye to our recent convert Wangzhen and our service project people and English class all were very difficult! Then Wednesday morning I loaded my stuff in a taxi and took off to my new area! Arrived got a little settled and started doing stuff and learning about the zone and stuff! We had English class that night which was great!

We had to go get somethings and do a house check in Jangwii my old area and it was so awesome to go back and to see my old area! I was so happy and it was really weird to go back there and see it! It was fun! We also had a huge missionary broadcast this week. World wide in fact! So…. Elder Hong my comp and I had to set up everything for that, one projector in English and one TV in Korean and get the internet connected! It was fun, and hectic! haha so on Friday we watched the broadcast and it was really really great! I learned a ton! I also got to meet all the zone and say hi and shake peoples hands and it was a lot of fun! That night we went and ate with a member and talked with him! He is a great guy and it was fun!

We also had a great week at church this week! I got to meet a lot of members and give a short talk and introduce myself and it was pretty great! I love the ward they all seem so nice and there are some really cool people here! We also had dinner with a member Sunday night which was fun!

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a missionary and testify of Jesus Christ! I know he is our savior and he suffered for us. Because of the atonement, we can truly be healed, we can overcome all sin, temptation, pain, suffering, we can overcome everything because He descended below all of it, and he overcame, so he can help us overcome so that we might one day live with him, and Heavenly Father again in eternal happiness! I know God lives and I know with all my heart that he loves us infinitely, we cannot comprehend how much he loves us! He loves every single person who has ever lived on this earth. He sent his son who loves us equally as much! I am so grateful for Heavenly Fathers love and for the gospel! I know this gospel is true.

Love,

Elder Houston

Well this week was crazy! I don’t have a huge email for you but just to start I want to say I love you all and I am so happy to always here from you all! Thank you fro all you guys have done for me in my life and for always emailing!

So We got transfer calls two days ago. Previous to transfer calls I really thought I would stay in Sindang because a lot of good things were happening in my area! I was really shocked when I got a call from President that I will be transferring! I will be serving in a new area called Gireum! it is right next to my first area! I am really excited, and nervous, and very sad, and just a lot of emotions! But I am excited to go where the Lord wants me to go!

Before we had our transfer calls though we had a busy week! We visited a really, really old and respected member of our ward and built really good relationships with him and I was just amazed by his testimony and love. We talked about North Korea, and I listened to this amazing man talk about his Brothers in Korea, things are so rough with the relationship of North and South Korea. It is heartbreaking, but the love this man had for North Koreans touched me. He said if North Korea opened for missionary service tomorrow, this tiny, old old man, would walk there and preach to every one of his brothers the happy news of the gospel! He would tell as many people as he could! I nearly cried talking to him, I have had several similar experiences lately and I know that, that day when that is possible is not far off as it may seem! I am honored to serve among such an amazing people!

I also gave District Meeting on Wednesday and it was fun, I had a million things to get through and get done but, it went well! The Lord really blesses us when we need it! I found it all worked out when I didn’t think I could get it all done! Then we practiced some singing for Sunday! Thursday we ate with a Less active and his family and the Sisters, it was good, we had a good meeting with them then Friday we met the Peregoy’s and taught there none member friend Brock! He is awesome and we had a great time as always! I am going to miss them a ton!!! We also met with Roy our investigator and had a great lesson with a member!

Then on Sunday we had a busy day, PEC in the morning, I gave a small talk in church because I was leaving and President and Sister Sonksen came and the AP’s talked as well, and Elder Grover and Elder Lujan! We are all leaving! Then we sang, and we sang, how great thou art and we started with a Duet….. haha me and Elder Lujan who doesn’t have any more singing experience than me….. I was nervous, but wow, that sound was amazing! When everyone else came in and we sang, it took everything I had to hold back the tears! Especially on that beautiful last verse, the source of our hope, Christ coming again! Then I had a big meeting at a different ward to discuss with priesthood leaders about English class, and teaching English and how to improve! It was good but hard to understand! haha  classic!

Anyways I really do know this gospel is true! I know I say it all the time, but it isn’t just words, I say that sincerely! I truly know that Jesus is the Christ, he atoned for our sins, and we are preparing for his triumphant return when we can shout with acclamation, “My God, how great thou art!” I know that he is the source of our hope, I testify of him and I tell all people of him, I love him and he loves me and loves all of you! I know with all my heart that this gospel is true! I love you all! Talk to you soon!

 Love,

Elder Houston

(Side note from Taylor’s Mom…I think it’s funny that he doesn’t mention it in his big email, but Elder Houston was called to be a Zone Leader.  He is overwhelmed and feels inadequate but also excited for the challenge of the new call.  This is a small portion of what he said to me over an email:

“….my phone started to buzz, and it was President…… He calls the ZL’s and so I answered and he told me about my area and said he needed me and the Lord needed me and I felt the pressure and just the shock, but I am handling it better now! At first I was really emotional and just surprised and felt pretty inadequate but again I am doing better now and I am excited! I will tell you one thing, if nothing else I will work really really hard to do everything I can!”)

신당 와드 Sindang Ward

Well I just love it here in Sindang! It is busy as could be, hard, and stressful as could be, and just so so so amazing! I am so happy to be serving here! I am also happy to hear from everyone! It was so good to hear from all of you today! Thank you so much for writing me emails! It means a lot! This week was packed full of great things!

We got to meet with a lot of investigators this week and pick up a few new investigators as well! We met with Jason and he has improved a ton and is still difficult to teach but it is more possible now! We are excited for what the future holds for him! We also met with Dr. Hong! Wow. I wish you all could see where we meet him! haha we call it the shady shack! hahah he is awesome though!!! So awesome! He is the perfect example of not judging a book by it’s cover. Cause to be honest the cover isn’t super pretty but man  he is awesome inside! He feeds us sweet potatoes that he cooks on a room heater and rice juice that has been in his shack for who knows how long, may have been fermented but I can’t remember…. Hahahaha jkjk it wasn’t but one bottle did have a funky taste to it for sure! But we teach him and he learns and is smart and he studies and says beautiful prayers! He is great! We met an American investigator named Jordan who is awesome and a Chinese guy whose English name is Sky who is awesome! We also met with Ahumad this week and I met with a less active when I went on exchange with Elder Lujan! The less active is obsessed with the concept of Hell so teaching was difficult but we got it done!

We also had Zone Meeting this week which was good but a lot of things are changing because the quorum of the twelve had a big meeting with mission Presidents and so somethings like transfers and office Elders and AP’s are changing which will directly effect our area! But we will see! And we had a great zone training! I got to meet with the zone leaders before and discuss about our district! It was great! After I did something called LPP, Language Progression Program. Something our mission does that I did when I was a greeny! I did it with Sister Turley! Basically she teaches me the lessons and I quiz her on some words she has been studying out of the LPP book! It is a great program! We passed of the 4th discussion which was a great accomplishment for her! On Sunday I got to talk a ton to Bishop between PEC and Ward Council!  We are doing a special WIN project for investigators and member work and it is awesome! Bishop and I have worked on it for a while and he has done it all and it is in full effect and super awesome! I love our Bishop! He is so awesome and has soooooooo much energy and so much missionary energy! He is so so great! It was an absolutely great week!

I am so grateful for the gospel and for all it has done to bless my life! I know that the gospel is true, I know with all my heart that the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith! I know that the gospel can and will bless any persons life who applies it! I know Jesus Christ lives and I know Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers! I know that this is the work of God and as we turn out to others we receive a happiness beyond anything we could imagine! I know the gospel is true!

Elder Houston

새해 복 많이 받으셨죠!?

Hey family!! How is everyone? Seems like everybody is doing great and looks like my family had a super fun week! Here in Korea I am having fun as well! I will jump right into my letter quick this week!

This week started with us meeting with Doug again and having a really good lesson, he is a great guy, and we really felt the spirit. I relied a lot on the spirit cause he was asking a lot of questions about scriptures and where things were and the spirit kept bringing them to my mind and we were able to share a lot of really good scriptures and have a very spiritual lesson of testifying!

Tuesday’s are the best! I love Tuesday’s! We do service every week and just have a great time while we are there!  The old people are so awesome and my friends and teach me all kinds of accents! It is really fun! Then after we always go to a place called Tospia and eat! We are really good friend with the owner there and she is just so kind to us! She has our spot ready and gets started with our order before we come! When I was sick she made me some Lemon tea every time we went there for free! It was great! We love it so much there! Then we had English class which is always a ton of fun!

We also taught our investigator Dr. Hong and Roy this week! They are both soooo awesome and I love them, bother lessons were awesome! Roy is so great and progressing a lot! He has a baptismal date for the end of the month! We had a very spiritual and real lesson with him! Then on Sunday he came to church! Sunday was crazy!!! I had soooo much stuff to talk to Bishop about at PEC and we had so many good things happening and good people to church less actives, investigators and part member families! It was a successful week and Bishop was really happy and we talked for a long time after church! He is amazing and has a huge testimony!

Well all in all it was a fantastic week! Full week which is just how I like it! I really am having so much fun here in Sindang and I am learning a lot, I still have so much to learn it is at times overwhelming but I am learning! I hope I can learn all that God needs me too! I am so grateful to be a missionary and be able to dedicate 110 percent of my focus on God’s work the salvation of souls! I know God lives, our trials and afflictions truly are for a moment but then if we endure well we will find peace and gain the Eternal reward of living with our Father in Heaven forever! I am grateful to be a missionary I love this work, I know it is true. I am no where near perfect but I will never stop trying to get better and one day become perfect because I know this gospel is true and through Jesus Christ, ALL things are possible! I know this gospel is true!
