Music and New Investigators

Well this week was fun, busy and full of miracles! I am soooooooooooooooooooo tired…. haha but happy as could be! I have had a lot of good experiences this week! I am so happy to hear from all of you! It sounds like you are all doing great!

This week we did some music stuff! So background, our district is like really Talented at music, Elder Brantley was in BYU men’s Chorus and is a super good singer and can play any instrument you put in his hands! Elder Cable is a great pianist, And Elder Hong is a solid bass in singing! And then the real talent starts…… Sister Bell and Sister Ouzonian are both flipping good singers! They are like….. really really good and they both play violin and sister Ouzonian is crazy good at it, so we have done a mini music night, and we taught the plan of salvation through song! We did it several times and are planning to more times, we have done it at members homes with investigators and it has been really good! It was very spiritual and I had the opportunity to close the meeting and bear my testimony which was a very spiritual uplifting spiritual experience for me! We did one on Tuesday and it was really great, we also woke up at 4:30 this morning to get to a seminary thing and did it there! It was a lot of fun!

We also picked up an investigator on Tuesday night and he was really nice, he is 40ish and we are teaching him English! It was fun to meet with him! Then we had a crazy day on Wednesday, we went to a different area and went to district meeting there, It was good and that night we met an investigator before English class and picked him up! He is Chinese and is really nice! Then on Thursday we had lunch with a member and then I did LPP with Elder Barney and then I met another member with Elder Cable and ate with him as well! And then I went with Elder Hong and met a new investigator! It was a busy day! We met with another member later, it was a productive week!

I know that God lives, he is our Heavenly Father, we lived with him in a spiritual state before this earth, we came here to gain experience and be tried and tested, he sent is son Jesus Christ who atoned for our sins and through that atonement we can overcome all trials and tests! I know that we can live with God again because Jesus Christ showed us the way how and I know we can live with our families for eternity! I know Joseph Smith was the prophet of the restoration and that Thomas S. Monson is the living prophet on the earth today! I know with all my heart that he is a Prophet of God! I know this gospel is true!

Love,

Elder Houston

Members, Missionaries, and New Investigators

This week was great! We saw many miracles in our lives and felt a lot of great blessings as well! I am so happy to hear from all of you! Thank you for your great emails! Well I will just get started!

We have been struggling to find investigators because of the lack of time to do so but this week we really wanted some so we got some time and really took advantage! We found 6 new investigators, the first is a family of 3 we met on Monday! A Grandma Grandpa and granddaughter and they are awesome! So nice and Buddhist! We had a great time with them! Later in the week we met them again and the grandson was at the house so we picked him up as an investigator as well and later we met to other people who were both so awesome and nice and one guy has really really good potential! We were pretty excited about them!

On Tuesday we went to the temple with our zone. I was having a hard time and pretty stressed and exhausted, but I will tell you what…. I love the Temple. I found so much peace, more then I imagined, and so much strength within the temple, after we went with a recent convert bowling.  It has been a while and I still am a little competitive so I went hard against Elder Cable and the next morning I thought I was going to die I was so stiff…… Dang it….. haha we did do 4 games in a row and I was chuckin ’em! Hahah classic problem! That night we had a lesson with our friend Jeffy before he moves to Taegu! He will probs get baptized there!

I got to go on exchange with Elder Saunders a DL in Sangyae an area in our zone! He is awesome! I sure do love him! We had a great exchange and saw some cool miracles together. At the end of exchange we went to the mission office cause of a mission choir practice! I met with President and discussed some Zone things and doctrinal questions I had been curious about as I studied King Benjamin’s sermon and went to the temple. It was awesome we ended up talking a lot about Divine Investiture and the covenant of promise and the fulfillment and he gave me a great talk! I have been very rooted in core doctrine but surprisingly that all related in very nicely! It was really great! We also had a great talk about our zone! We also went to outback for our year and a half mark and my outback gift card didn’t work….. dang it…. but yeah! We helped close a house this week and met with the stake President and mission President again at SPM’s and had a great council! I also got to go to ward council and it is so cool to see how hard the people here are working and see there bright testimonies! It was a great week for member work at church!

This week was full of miracles! I am so happy to be a missionary! I really am! I am having so much fun, I love the work! It is hard, it is stressful, I am more tired then ever before, but man do I love it! I love the people of Korea, I love the missionary’s here! I know that God livea, I know Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and because of him, we truly can overcome all things and the beautiful plan of happiness can be fulfilled and we can return to the Celestial kingdom! I know this gospel is true!

설날! Valentines day!

Well this week was a week of Holidays! We had one of the biggest Korean Holidays, Solar this week! It is a super cool Holiday! We also had Valentines day which is celebrated in Korea but it is a little different and not as big here! It was a great week, pretty busy but really fun, even got warm for a day or two but now it is really cold again! haha

Because we had Solar this week we had a combined zone conference and we also had our cleaning day! Cleaning day is the best! But for Zone conference we went to the office on Tuesday and we started with some fun stuff, a slideshow, and learned about Solar, and we had a good time talking about a few mission things. President clarified about calling and he answered a lot of “questions” he gets, It was fun cause some of the questions were funny but one question was, “A stranger is banging on my door at night, what should I do.” People were confused and kind of laughed and so did President but then he got serious and it got quiet. He was choked up and He said, “Elders and Sisters….. that is a real call I got from some sisters…. A real situation… so I called the zone leaders there and told them to go check it out…” Then he started crying and said, “Those Zone leaders were over there like That (as he snapped his fingers), they were prowling around the area looking for the guy and I am happy they didn’t find him or I might have had a bigger problem on my hands… (he chuckled)… (then got serious again) I am grateful… for good zone leaders.” Elder Hong and I were both about in tears as well cause that was a scary situation and we were touched at how much president cares about each person in our mission, we were also surprised, but President was so happy all zone conference because he is happy with everyone in our zone! After we did an awards show and Elder Hong and I won an award! It was the “In the middle of a call” award for our 86 calls before lunch! Hahah they gave us some really really old cord phones for our reward! Hahahah it was pretty funny! After we ate lunch together… guess what Elder Hong and I did?? We had lunch all together and then had some training by the AP’s and President! It was so good to see everyone and have such a great time!

The next day we had our big cleaning day! Oh it was fun, I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and the house looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better now! Oh I love it! I had so much fun on that day, we cleaned a lot of stuff and we really got a good clean house where the spirit can abide completely and fully! It is really great! The next day we actually finished cleaning because we had to go close another house and then we made a street board for valentines! I went on exchange this week as well and had fun and we also did a fun valentines activity at a college!

It was a great week, I know that Jesus Christ is our savior and redeemer he can Elevate us is we let him, I know it is through him that we can overcome all difficulties and trials! I know Heavenly Father lives, I know he is our true Father in Heaven, I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that through him, Heavenly Father has once again reached out to his children! I know that this gospel is true!

MLC and Zone training

This was a great week! We were busy here in Korea today is the start of a huge Holiday in Korea! Solar started today and goes through Wednesday so we have a conference and cleaning day coming up in the next few days! It’ll be fun!

Well this week was good but the Highlight for me was going to MLC (mission leadership training) and getting trained by President and the AP’s! They trained on being worthy and ready through preparation during studies and being obedient! It was really great!  After MLC we went to the church and prepared the rest of the night for Zone Training the next morning!

When we woke up we went straight to the church and continued to prepare until we had DLC (District Leader Council) at 10:00AM! After we did last minute preparation and then at 12:30 we went up to zone training! All 33 people were there so I went around and shook everyone’s hand and then President walked in so we grabbed President and Sister Sonksen some seats and started Zone training! Elder Hong and I and the STL presented a training based on what we learned at MLC! It went really good. The spirit was strong! I love Elder Hong and Sister Udall and Sister Park did a great job as well! The spirit was strong! We did a role-play and it went really good.  President and Sister Sonksen were the “investigator couple” for us, and they started crying.  At the end of the training we turned the time over to President to say something and he was really choked up, so all he said was, “You have been well instructed, now have soft hearts and apply it.” It was a very spiritual training and spiritual meeting! He told us how much he liked it after and was very happy! We were happy as well it was good to see everyone and we followed President to shake everyone’s hands again after the meeting! It was a lot of fun! I love everyone in our zone sooo much! After zone training we had to meet with a few people to chat with them about Missionary stuff but it all went good! The spirit was really strong after zone training so everyone was very mature and open and respectful! President also talked to a few people but all went really smooth! It was a great day!

This week I also got to go on exchange with my MTC COMP ELDER SEDERHOLM!!! Hahah he is a District Leader in our zone so I got to go on exchange with him! He is a great kid! It was a ton of fun to work with each other! I also got to go on split with Elder Cable for a second and teach their investigator Brian! It was great! Brian has been through a lot! He took us out for one of my favorites pig intestines soup but it was Elder Cables first time eating it and he struggled and got sick after! We ate it in a classic Korean market! Haha it was great! Elder Hong and I also got to go to a Baptismal service in our zone with President and sister Sonksen as well! It was really great! It was actually in Jangwii so I got to see all my old friends and members! I didn’t think they would really remember me but they did pretty well and it was sooooo fun to finally be able to talk to them and have a good time! They are so great!

That is about it for this week! This week I have found how the Savior Jesus Christ’s truly takes weak things and makes them strong! I am weak but because I am relying holy upon the merits of the atonement I have been able to rise to the occasion and been able to fulfill my calling! I can feel the spirit here in this mission and in this area! I know Jesus Christ is my Savior! I love him and I serve him!  I know through him I can be made strong and overcome all things, and one day eventually return to my Father in Heaven! I know this gospel is true!

Elder Houston

동 존 Dong Zone

Well this week was great! And very busy! We had a super super busy week but a very fun and interesting week! It has been quite a long week for me actually! I am having fun here though! I am so happy to see my family and see Tyson playing ball and here about Trev in Lessons! I miss you all a ton! Thank you for the great emails!

Well this week was hectic, but great! Last monday we met with Bishop and had a delicious dinner with him! It was a good time! I love him and his family! He is a great guy! A lot quieter and shy than Sindang Bishop but super great! We met with a less activeh this week! We call him goose and it was good! He needs some faith though!

This week after our awesome District meeting by Elder Brantley I went on exchange with the AP’s! Elder Yetter! It was good fun and super productive! We met one really cool kid and ended up meeting him again later with Elder Hong! We had a great lesson and the spirit was so strong! some of the best teaching on my mission but he still kind of denied it, and he doesn’t have a desire to learn. Super nice so it was pretty heart breaking because Elder Hong and I don’t have a ton of investigators right now and we super excited about him! We have been busy with a lot of things and haven’t had tons of time to find investigators! But we are hoping things settle down a little after our Zone Training this Wednesday!

Some crazy things that happened this week was one morning we got 86 calls haha and also one night we got a call 10mins past lights out and it was a sisters team with a crazy person trying to get into there house! They live in my first house in jangwii so I had a pretty good idea who it was but she stayed there for a long time and was kicking and banging on the door so President sent us over to make sure the sisters were safe so we ran out grabbed a taxi and were there quick. We calmed the sisters down, it was the same crazy lady from a year ago so I explained to them the situation and calmed them down. We made sure they were all safe then took off home and got home at like 11:30 and the next morning was the 86 calls morning! Hahah we were pretty stressed then! Hahah But.. we are going to move the sisters and close that house! I asked President and he thought it was a good idea so we will move them soon!

Anyways this week was fun and adventurous!! I am so happy to be serving a mission and have the opportunity to serve other missionaries and to serve the people of Korea! I love this Country and this work! I am so grateful for the saviors atonement! I know through Jesus Christ and his teachings we can rise above anything in this worldy world, and we can conquer all evil! I know this gospel is true!
